Former Springbok rugby player, Marius Hurter will once again be participating in the Absa Cape Epic in support of leading sports and education charity, the JAG Foundation. Hurter will be joined by Christiaan Schutte, a dentist by profession and a bonified adventure junkie of note.

The ex tight head prop, along with other prolific sports heroes including Chester Williams and Joel Stransky will be donning their helmets for charity come March 2010.  After an unfortunate detour at Stage 3 of last year’s Epic, Marius and riding partner Christiaan has come out stronger and wiser and feel optimistic about 2010’s race.

Known for his prowess on the field, Hurter is a world class athlete who in addition to the participating in the Cape Epic has taken on the Ironman 70.3 and plans to participate in Ironman SA, the Two Oceans as well as the Comrades Marathon.

In addition to swimming and running, Marius and Christiaan are training approximately ten hours a week.

“The first two days of the Epic are challenging and your body literally goes into shock,” comments Marius. He continues: “We’re excited about participating again, this time as slightly more experienced riders (laughs) and will be doing our utmost to rise to the Cape Epic challenge.”

Marius, along with other top local celebrities will be donning their helmets at this year’s Absa Cape Epic as JAG AllStars. Initiated in 2009, the JAG AllStars supporters club invites South Africans to join local sports stars to help inspire and encourage South Africa’s youth through sport.
