South Africa’s top professional Robert Hunter ( Phonak) retained the race leaders yellow jersey in the second stage of the Tour of Georgia on Tuesday.

The 197,5 km stage was won by the team Gerolsteiner rider Peter Wrolich, who came off Lance Armstrong’s wheel for the win but Hunter finished safely out of harms way to keep the lead in the highly ranked tour.

The stage started slowly until the "Old Man" of cycling Andrea Tafi (Saunier Duval-Prodir) decided to attack after 80km.Tafi is looking for 1 more stage win before he hangs up his cycling shoes.

He rode solo until he was caught on the final circuit by the flying peloton with the Discovery Channel team setting a high tempo on the front. Last year’s winner, Lance Armstrong, was on the right wheel looking to repeat last years win.

Hunter found himself near the front on the last climb and with tired riders sitting up in front of him , he was unable to contest the final sprint. Armstrong tried but Wrolich proved to be that little bit quicker on the day.
