The organisers of the Mr Price Tour Durban have confirmed that on-line entries for the revamped race have already reached almost 4 000 riders, and that the final figure is expected to be around 5 000, well in excess of last year’s total entry.

The event’s growth is yet another indication of the rising popularity of KZN’s major cycle races, aided by their easy access for riders from the Reef together with some balmy and rider-friendly autumn weather and the magnificent coastal scenery.

The Mr Price Tour Durban is a major part of the Durban Metro’s Easter April/March Holiday inititiative which promotes tourism to the KZN sporting centre.

The event has been in existence for just over a decade, but the acquisition of the Durban based leisure-wear giant, Mr Price, as the title sponsor has given the race a whole new impetus and a totally fresh marketing momentum.

“I feel quite at ease now that the race is back on track and that it’s going to show substantial growth in years to come,” said race organiser Anne Batchelder from Right on the Night Events.

The multi-faceted marketing thrust by the organisers and the sponsors is already paying dividends, and the increased number of entries is a first and very visible indication of the success of that approach.

The event takes place on 24 April and all the information you could need is available on www.tourdurban.co.za, and any inquiries can be made to Annie and Melissa on , by fax to , or by e-mail to
