Cycling experience in the form of a former Danish national champion, Soren Peterson, has been added to the youthful, Cape-based Team CVT/CSC as they prepare to compete in the Giro del Capo and Cape Argus Pick ’n Pay Cycle
Tour.

Peterson (37) - a past winner of the Peace race and a former member of American Team Saturn - arrived in Cape Town  recently to prepare for the five-day, six stage Giro del Capo, which begins on Wednesday.

This is a return visit to South Africa for Peterson, who previously participated in Rapport tours in which he took a second and fifth place in two stages.

’My aim would be to win a stage in the Giro and to help CVT/CSC to victory in the Cycle Tour on Sunday,’ Peterson said.  He joins under 23/elite riders Wesley Cole (Team CVT/CSC captain), Jayson Berry, Craig Butland and Chris Willemse Jnr. in their pursuit of stage or overall race victory in this year’s event.

A professional cyclist for the past 10 years, all-rounder Peterson has a pedigree like few others. He is an accomplished climber and it will be of particular benefit to the team as the Giro contains a number of notorious hills, including Vissershok near Durbanville (Stage 1), the Franschoek Pass and Du Toits Kloof Pass (Stage 2) and the Nuwekloof and Bains Kloof passes (Stages 3a and 3b).

Peterson still trains around three to four hours a day and among his other accolades are stage wins and the overall win in the Tour of Thailand. He has also earned a second place in the Grand Prix Isbergues and a third place in the Redlands Classic USA.

He sites his favourite race as the Tour de Langkawi in Malaysia.
