And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, they go and announce significant improvements to the Pick ‘n Pay Amashovashova, already voted the best race in SA for 2004.

Go-ahead race organiser, Annie Batchelder, has confirmed that “we have taken out the tricky sections through Inchanga and Cowies Hill which have caused us a few problems in the past.

“This section was also singled out by the Traffic Department as a problem in gaining full road closure again. That meant we were faced with a dilemma, but we plotted a new way and I’m very pleased with the way it worked out. The big bonus, of course, is that we can still have full road closure for the Amashovashova where it wouldn’t have been possible had we stayed with the old route.”

There is also an added bonus for those who have already found the 106km course long enough and hard enough, “it’s going to be two kilometres shorter this way !’ said a clearly very pleased Annie.

Riding the Road of Champions is never going to be better than on 30 October 2005.

If that’s what Annie can do for the Amashovashova, watch out for improvements to the upcoming Mr Price Tour Durban, her other KZN cycling baby.

The Pick ‘n Pay Amashovashova takes place on Sunday, October 30, while the Mr Price Tour Durban is set for April 28.
