Team CVT/CSC claimed 17 out of a total of 21 medals at the Western Province Track Championship held on Friday and Saturday as well as the top three places in the 89km Canal Walk Richest Ride held on Sunday.

Team CVT/CSC riders, who participated in seven track events at the Belville Velodrome, won all the gold as well as most of the silver and bronze medals. At Sunday’s league race, Wesley Cole, Chris Willemse Jnr and Dean Hopf took first, second and third places respectively, repeating a previous performance when Cole won the race and Team CVT/CSC riders claimed the top three places.

It was indeed a golden weekend for Cole who also triumphed in the 4000 Metres Individual Pursuit and the 1000m Time Trial. Chris Willemse Jnr won the 1500 Metres event and Dean Hopf the Match Sprint, while Simon Brown’s win in the Elimination event was an early twenty-first birthday gift (he turns 21 on Tuesday 19 April).  Jayson Berry’s performance at the Championships netted him one silver and three bronze medals.

In addition to the individual performances, CVT/CSC also won the Team Pursuit and Olympic Team Sprint.

According to team manager, Chris Willemse Snr, "The consistent performance of CVT/CSC in the WP Championships and in Sunday’s league event is indicative of the quality of our riders, who proved just too strong for their Western Province and Boland counterparts."
